Purpose of the Job 

The Media Specialist provides strategic communication and media support to the Chief Commissioner, ensuring the timely and accurate dissemination of key messages. The role contributes to advancing human rights awareness, supporting high-level initiatives, and fostering informed public understanding through effective and responsible media engagement.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide media and communication support exclusively to the Office of the Chief Commissioner.
  • Conduct daily monitoring of print, broadcast, online, and social media coverage related to the Chief Commissioner, his official engagements, and relevant human rights issues.
  • Prepare regular and ad-hoc media monitoring, analysis, and briefing reports for the Chief Commissioner and the Chief of Staff.
  • Draft, review, and edit media and communication products related solely to the Chief Commissioner’s meetings, initiatives, statements, and public engagements.
  • Prepare press releases, media briefs, key messages, talking points, and background materials related to the Chief Commissioner’s activities.
  • Prepare proposed media messages and communication products for the Office of the Chief Commissioner and submit them to the Media and Communication Department for institutional dissemination, in accordance with EHRC policies and approval procedures.
  • Disseminate approved information only through the Chief Commissioner’s official social media platforms and coordinate closely with the Media and Communication Department for all publications, announcements, and messaging issued through EHRC’s official platforms.
  • manage content published on the Chief Commissioner’s official social media accounts, ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and consistency with EHRC’s mandate.
  • Review and analyze the chief commissioner’s official social media accounts feedback or comments, and prepare a review report. 
  • Serve as the focal point for media requests addressed to the Chief Commissioner and coordinate interviews, press engagements, and statements in collaboration with the EHRC Spokesperson.
  • Provide strategic communication advice and technical support to the Chief Commissioner and the Chief of Staff, particularly on sensitive or high-profile issues.
  • Ensure confidentiality, institutional coherence, and adherence to EHRC policies in all media-related activities.

Qualification and Experience 

  
Education MA/BA Degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, International Studies, Political Science, Law, Human Rights and other related field
Experience

BA Degree: Minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience.

MA Degree: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience.

Experience supporting senior public officials, NHRIs, or public institutions is an advantage.

Other Requirements

Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills.

 Strong command of Amharic and English; knowledge of additional local languages is an asset.

Computer literate with proficiency in digital and social media platforms.

Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
